Busy, Busy, Busy

Sorry for the lack of post.  I've been trying really hard just to survive the semester.  Now that the semester is over, however, I've been plodding away at Objective-C.

The end goal in learning Objective-C was to make a Classic-Pokemon-Style game.  Step one was to create the world.  In order to simplify that process I decided to make a map editor first.  Here's a quick screen shot of the rough-around-the-edges map editor in progress.

I've almost got it saving and loading files.  The next step is going to be the clean up to make everything look nice.  After that comes the game itself (with no real objectives besides walking).  When all of that is complete, then comes the cool doodads, buildings, and NPC's.  Whew.... that's going to be alot of work.

Fun fact of the day:  How do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time.

Second fun fact:  If you want to learn Cocoa leave a comment and I'll do my best to answer your questions.

Third and final fun fact: I am documenting this whole thing so that I can tutorialize this for whomever wishes to learn.

Adam and STEve MANIA!!!!!

Here's the latest Adam and Steve.  It goes out to Cat who inspired this post.  Also, I have a post inspired by Mary.  It's coming.  It's just not finished.

Also, here's the older Adam and Steve's.  If you don't know what's going on, the comic takes place AFTER Eve eats the forbidden fruit but BEFORE Adam does.

Will he ever take the fruit?!
What will become of Eve!?
What shenanigans will Adam and Steve (Satan) get into?!

Day Awesome

Adam and Steve is back!  And this time is was drawn on my laptop's track pad!  Oh yeah!

Did I mention I love crazy people?  Did I mention I love my Dinosaurs class even more?

Also, if you scroll to the bottom of the blog you'll find a nifty little treat.  :D

Also, no feedback guys?  You make me sad.  :D  Ooops... I guess I can't hide how happy Adam and Steve make me.

Day 8 ish. Favorite Superhero

What is your favorite super hero?  This is a super hard one for me to answer.  I love TONS of super heroes.  I love spiderman, nightcrawler, green lantern, wolverine, raven, swamp thing, etc, etc.  The point is that to pick one is not easy.  I will say that one hero that has caught my eye for awhile is Phoenix (or Hound (Rachel Sumers/Marvel Girl) depending on which universe we're in).

Here's a challenge for you.  You tell me why I like Phoenix (or why you do).

Day Who Gives A Crap

So I don't even know what day this is supposed to be for the ol' blog post challenge.  You see, when something attempts to control my actions (especially in the instance of something personal to me i.e. blog) I don't respond very well.
Anyway... Here we sit.  I'm looking at the end of a long holiday and I've got a lot to say and none of it is worth listening to.  That being said, here's the first ten songs my iPod plays on shuffle with their official music video (if they have one [or if I don't like the video, another video with the same song {pardon the lyrics if it applies (I don't know what's in them, I haven't picked the songs yet)}]).

1. Run To The Hills by Iron Maiden

2. Eet by Regina Spektor

3. I Like The Way You Move by Outkast

4. Celtic Moon by Enya

5. Courage by Alien Ant Farm

6. Easy Lover by Phil Collins

7. Can't Stop Now by Keane

8. Vanilla Twilight by Owl City

9. Beat 8 by Ratatat

10.The Tunnel by The Used

I'd like to leave you with a few parting words.  First I'm super glad someone found and used my "feedback buttons" under my posts.  Also, the last few post I've put up have had record views.  If you're reading this could you take 5 seconds and tell me what you like to see or want to see from my blog.
Finally, if you didn't watch the videos or look up the songs, you're missing a splendid opportunity to understand me.  I know that hipsters claim that music impacts them more than anyone else, but truthfully this sort of uncensored exercise really gives you a look at who a person is.  Say what you will about any song on this list, but every song is on my ipod for a reason.  Every song represents something in me; whether the song reflects my hope for a brighter tomorrow, a forgotten love of yesterday, or my daily self exploration.
Thanks everyone for your support and always remember these 3 things:
         1. Never use the word 'you' when giving criticism, good or bad.
         2. For you to be saved and me to be brave we don't have to walk down that aisle.
         3. When I get older, I won't remember. Until that day comes, I've got something on you.

The Habit I Wish I Didn't Have

I have a terrible, terrible habit of getting really excited about something and not finishing.  It's currently on of my habits I'm trying to kill off.  :D

This is a sketch from the video game I want to make.  His name is Jeb.

Picture Of Me and My Friends

Well... here's a funny thing.  So people have funny names in my phone.  I think it started as a joke where people would steal my phone and change names, then I just never changed them back.  So Jake in my phone is Pikachu.
Yeah... so that's pretty much the post for today.  Hopefully you like the colored version.  I sure didn't like the method I tried in coloring this time.  :(

The Meaning Behind Blog Name

How did I decide on "The Ink Golem" as a blog title.  I wanted something that is me.  What better than an animated beast created purely out of ink?  And honestly, if there is any truth to the saying "the pen is mightier than the sword," is there anything more terrifying than an ink golem?  Think about it.

Non-related Reminder: We're all one phone call away from our knees.

The Saddest Post Ever

Here's my life (blurred out so as not to be accused of cheating) for the last 6 weeks.  It's a web crawler.  It crawls websites and indexes the key words.  Cry for me, and the 1,698 lines of code.

Also, since this blog post is sort of a disappointment (for both you and I), I've decided to add a little something extra I got from my sister's blog.  I normally hate these things but what the heck.  It's a 30 day schedule of questions to answer.

Day 1: A recent picture of you and 15 interesting facts about yourself

This festive halloween picture was snapped by the ever famous, ever present Luke Lewis.  The party was AWESOME and I really enjoyed spending the evening with good friends.

That's the recent picture part.  15 interesting facts.... not happening.  Sorry.  I will tell you this interesting fact, however.  I'm determined to name my first boy Nicolas.  No particular spelling.  I just like the name.  I'm pretty sure that was personal enough to count for all 15 facts.

In case you care... Here's the schedule for my daily post.  Look forward to it.

Comic Con 2010

Well, I feel like this whole event has been kept under wraps quite well, until now.  Here's a taste of (hopefully) more to come.

In case you're wondering what's up, this is Skottie Young, easily my favorite artist of all time (excluding Michelangelo, I'm a sucker for sculptors).

Also, if you couldn't tell, I was a Ravenclaw. Not anyone in particular.  Just a Ravenclaw.

First Edit In Premiere

I'm a Final Cut guy.... but I'm also a poor guy.  Thus I opted for the Adobe package with everything, over the Final Cut package with not much.  Here's the first edit with Premiere.  Lemme know what you think.

"Flash Can Not Parse This Document"

Yes I realize it should probably "cannot" instead of "can not."  Yes I realize this is out of the ordinary.  If you got this error in flash this is the fix:

1. Copy the corrupted FLA file.
2. Change the extension on the copy to .zip instead of .fla
3. Open the >Library directory and (this is tricky) move the .xml files somewhere else one at a time.  Every time you move one, go up one directory and try and open your .xfl file.  When it finally opens it means that you found the corrupt (or one of the corrupt) files.
4. Put everything back where it's supposed to be.
5. Open the corrupt file(s) in a text editor and find the empty [Frame] tag.
6. Delete it/them.
7. After this is done for each corrupt file, your .xfl file will open and you can save it as whatever you want.
8. In "Symbol Editor" mode, DO NOT HAVE EMPTY FRAMES ON FRAME 1!!!!  That's what causes the problem (I think).

A little more detail on step 7.  Most text editors have a "Find" option.  In most editors it's Ctrl/Cmd + F.  Search for occurances of "Frame".  Delete "empty" tags.  If you don't understand what that means, basically it'll have something like this:

QUICK REVISION: Blogger thought I was trying to enter actual XML, so the beginning of each line in your file will have the "<" instead of "[".  Sorry....

[DomLayer ........>
      [Frame>
[/DomLayer>
If there is a whole bunch of code in between the "Dom" tags then leave it there (the indentation will give you a hint, and remember these tags could be hundreds of lines apart).  An example of what to leave alone will look like this:

[DomLayer ........>
      [Frame ..............>
INSERT HUNDREDS OF LINES OF CODE (OR TENS OR FIFTIES, WHO KNOWS)
      [/Frame>
[/DomLayer>

Good luck.  Message me if you have any questions.

It's Been A Long Time

And the creature emerges a new beast.  Or something.  Anyway.  Here's the concept art for a game I'm working on.  The player gets to decide what power the main character will have/develop for the entire game.  So far the 4 are Nuclear Vomit, The Extinct Dodo (which fits conveniently in a backpack), Robot Arm 6000, and The Stop (Literally... as in time stops entirely) Watch.

Confused Yet?

What is the connection between Ben Gibbard and Jenny Lewis, Jack and Meg White, and Zach Braff and Tina Fey?  If you're not sure you probably don't know much about the last 6 months.

On topic... let me know which nose you think is best.

Houdini Pyro FX

My first time with Houdini's pyro fx.  The concept was an old boy scout camp fire we had.  We lit it with lighter fluid (and lots of it) and later put an economy size can of beans in it (which promptly exploded).  I decided that to exagerate the lighting of the fire with lighter fluid I would combine the visuals into an explosive lighting (followed by the tree getting a little burned).

Shirts Printed

Here's 2 of the 3 shirts I printed.  Sorry for the really less than professional pictures.  I'm just SO excited to have them done I can't hide it.

(There's only 2 shirts in the picture cause I'm wearing one)

If you want a shirt let me know.  I'm getting an enormous box ordered in really soon.  If everything goes well with the shirts I should have just about all sizes and they should be cheaper than I expected they would be (like maybe down to 10 bucks, we'll see).  Please just let me know asap if you want one so I can get the best price for these puppies as I can.

Also, artists, get me some designs to put on shirts!  I want this to really be a collective of the best shirts in the world!  Drop a line or shoot me a design.  I wanna really have fun with this guys.

Until next time, stay thirsty my friends.

THEY CAME!!

First item of business:
I take photos sometimes.  If you like seeing photos you can wander over to:
           werobots.blogspot.com
I was a featured guest!  So cool!  :D

Second item of business:
THEY CAME!! My first box of a few shirts came today.  I'm going to be printing them up as soon as I can get this weekend over (I love over planned weeks!).  For all you artists out there here's what you should know.

I'm starting what I'd like to call the "Artist Coalition."  Pretty much how it works is I'm gonna keep posting the shirts I'm making on here.  If you would like your own stuff put on a shirt let me know.  I'll email you the costs (really not that much, to be honest) and print you your own shirts.  After that point, if you want, I can post your printed design so that other people can order it too.  If you don't want others to order it I'll destroy the mold forever :).

That's basically it.  I want everyone to be able to own everyone's shirts.  It's so much cooler that way.

So that's it.  I'm getting things started.  If you want one of my shirts (either now or after I've printed them) let me know (they'll be about 12 bucks because I messed up and did things the expensive way this time :().

Thanks everyone!

The Ink Gollum

So I recently acquired a pretty sweet hook up.  As a result of said hook up I'm hosting an art jam.... ish.  Basically I'm printing stuff on shirts.  If you want to see your art on a shirt talk to me.  If you want to buy other peoples art that's on a shirt that I've posted about talk to me (it's super affordable).  Plus... to top this all off, the shirts fit really nicely and come in all cuts and sizes.  I prefer the slim fit myself tall tees myself.

Anyway.  Enough rambling.  This is my first print I'm gonna do to kick things off.  If you would like a copy let me know.  If you wanna see mine first let me know.  If you think I'm sexy, please, let me know.

Dirty Canvas

Sometimes it's relieving to get something dirty.

I think my itunes has a sense of humor.  I didn't stop it cause I thought it was funny.. but this is what happened while I was making this mess.

Into The Night
Mambo #5
Fairytale
Winter Song
Adia
I Will Remember You (Twice!?!)
Silent Night

Crazy itunes.

*EDIT*

Now it's outdone itself.  Truely, Madly, Deeply?!??!  I think it's trying to build a collection of the worst songs ever.... Which gives me an idea.... comment with the worst songs ever (in your opinion).  Anything annoying, overplayed, sentimentally manipulative, etc.
